Guy J. Roney III, the senior vice president of Costa Mesa-based

Corporate Capital Group, was awarded the Certified Commercial Investment

Member designation by the institute. The designation is awarded to

commercial real estate professionals who complete a graduate-level

curriculum and attain a high level of experience. The designation

recognizes experts in real estate brokerage, leasing, asset management,

valuation and investment analysis. Only 6,000 of an estimated 125,000

commercial real estate practitioners in North America hold the

designation. Roney has nearly 25 years of experience in real estate and

is a licensed California real estate broker. Corporate Capital Group is a

member of the Andrew L. Youngquist Construction Inc. family of companies

based in Costa Mesa. . . . Corona del Mar resident Kathy Sommer was hired

as a horticulturist by the Merit Cos. Sommer will provide consulting and

advice on landscaping issues to Merit’s clients. She has more than 15

years of experience in the business, most recently serving as

horticultural consultant on large residential and commercial landscape

projects in San Diego County. Sommer has also worked for Sherman Library

& Gardens and Roger’s Gardens, both in Corona del Mar. In 1986, she

received an award for her work on the Goldenrod Footbridge Beautification

Project by the Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce. Sommer is a member of

several professional organizations, such as the California Native Plant

Society and the International Palm Society. The Merit Cos. consists of

Merit Property Management Inc., Merit Assn. Services Inc. and Community

Technologies Inc., and has offices in Mission Viejo, San Diego, Temecula,

Valencia and San Ramon. Founded in 1980, Merit Property Management has

become one of California’s largest community association management

companies, overseeing more than 70,000 residential units and 180

community associations. . . . Lisa Marie Huntington, daughter of Dave

Huntington of Orange and Carolyn and Jesse Martinson of Costa Mesa,

completed cadet basic training at the U.S. Military Academy. Cadets learn

military skills, including leadership, which begins on their first day at

West Point. She also plays catcher and first base on the Army softball

team that went 11-1 last season. Huntington is a 2001 graduate of Newport

Harbor High School, and she plans to graduate from West Point in 2005 and

be commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army.
