Jaycee Mahler, a freshman on the Orange Coast College women’s

soccer team, has been awarded Most Valuable Player of the Orange Empire

Conference and six more Pirates have earned all-conference honors.

Mahler, who set the school single-season record with 33 goals, led the

OEC in scoring with 57 points (25 goals, seven assists) to help the

Pirates finish in second place and they posted a 20-5-1 overall record,

matching the school record for wins set by the 1988 squad.

In addition, OCC sophomore Cristina Guerin and freshmen Summer Chaldu

and Fernanda Velasco earned a spot on the OEC first team. Chaldu and

Guerin were leaders on defense, while Velasco contributed 18 points (six

goals, six assists) in the OEC season.

OCC sophomore Kristin Hamman and freshmen Lauren Cassity and Alicia

Santiago earned OEC second team status.

Cassity scored 12 goals and continuously provided intensity, while

Hamman tallied eight goals and contributed with leadership. Santiago, a

freshman, posted 10 points (two goals, six assists) for the Pirates.

Saddleback coach Brandee Craig, a former assistant of OCC Coach

Barbara Bond, guided the Gauchos to a .500 finish (8-8-2, 7-7-2 in the

OEC) in their inaugural season and was named Coach of the Year.
