Boys basketball: Lancers outlast Eagles
FOUNTAIN VALLEY - Estancia High senior star Micah Young missed the
second half after injuring an ankle and Orange Lutheran took advantage,
rallying to claim a 51-47 win in the first round of the La Quinta
Tournament Monday at Los Amigos High.
Young, a first-team All-Pacific Coast League and All-Newport-Mesa
District performer last year as a junior, scored seven points before his
injury, to help Estancia (1-1) earn a 27-26 halftime lead.
The Eagles were still up by one heading into the final quarter, when
the Lancers outscored them, 14-9, to advance to tonight’s quarterfinals.
Estancia, paced by 12 points and 10 rebounds from 6-foot-7 junior
center Joey Lindquist, falls into the consolation bracket, where it will
meet the Santa Ana Valley-Los Amigos loser tonight at 5 at La Quinta
High.
Jorge Prado and Jermaine Snell added seven points apiece for the
Eagles.
Sean Luecke led the winners with 24 points.
