Boys basketball: Mesa rolls again
ANAHEIM - Costa Mesa High senior point guard David Conte led four
Mustangs in double figures with 25 points to key an 81-45 blowout of
Valencia in the second round of pool play at the Loara Tournament
Wednesday.
Conte also added eight assists and seven steals to help the Mustangs
(2-0) overcome early deficit. After Valencian led, 8-2, Mesa outscored
the Tigers, 20-3, to end the first quarter and never looked back.
Senior Chad Vakili added 16 points, while Nolan Clark (14) and Danny
Krikorian (10) also led a balanced scoring attack.
Mesa Coach Bob Serven also praised sophomore Jordan Stroman, who came
off the bench to add six points. Stroman was 4 of 4 from the foul line,
where Mesa netted 16 of 19 attempts.
The Mustangs play Esperanza Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Loara High for the
championship of the pool.
