Storm rolls in
The storm system that blew in over the weekend may have only dusted
the area with a light drizzle, but it could very well go out with a bang
by the time the week is over.
There is a chance of thunderstorms this morning, said meteorologist
Noel Isla of the National Weather Service. The storm should give way to
partly cloudy skies this afternoon.
But while there isn’t much rain on the way, surfers may be the biggest
beneficiaries, as the storm should kick up some 3- to 5-foot waves today,
diminishing over the rest of the week to 1 to 3 feet, Isla added.
The swell coming in from the northwest is expected to produce bigger
waves mostly in San Diego County, although local surf spots could get
some of the action also, Isla said.
As with all rainy days, the California Highway Patrol urges caution
when driving, including leaving early before work or school and driving
slowly.
Motorists should also remember to leave extra space between their car
and the vehicle ahead to provide an escape route in case the driver in
front brakes unexpectedly, Officer Katrina Lundgren said.
After the first heavy rain, the roads tend to be slick because of the
oil and debris that come to the surface, Lundgren added.
