Girls tennis: CdM sweeps singles, doubles at PCL finals
LAGUNA BEACH - It was a full house for Corona del Mar High’s girls
tennis team Friday in the Pacific Coast League individual championships
at Laguna Beach High.
CdM junior Anne Yelsey, the team’s No. 1 singles player and top seed
in the tournament, defaulted in the singles final against teammate Leslie
Damion, who claimed the easiest title of her career.
Yelsey, the defending singles champion, was experiencing back problems
and did not play in the finals. Damion and Yelsey qualified for the CIF
Southern Section individual championships beginning Nov. 17.
Yelsey topped University’s Danielle Kausen, 6-0, 6-0, in the
semifinals, while Damion beat CdM teammate Juliette Mutzke, 6-2, 6-1, in
the other semifinal. Mutzke defeated Kausen, 6-2, 6-4, for third place.
In doubles final, Corona del Mar’s Brittany Holland and Taylynn
Snyder, the top-seeded team, beat Laguna Beach’s Cameron Barron-Sandman
and Lindsay Butterwick, 6-3, 6-1, after defeating Laguna Beach’s Jackie
Schulman and Danielle Reed, 6-1, 6-0, in the semifinals.
In the other semifinal, Butterwick-Barron-Sandman beat CdM’s Brittany
Minna and Amanda Rubenstein, 6-3, 6-3. Schulman-Reed topped
Minna-Rubenstein for third place, 6-3, 6-3.
