AYSO Region 57: Newport Storm overcomes Flying Tigers
Justin Tucker, Mathew Crittenden and Taylor Epp scored goals to
help the Newport Storm defeat the Flying Tigers, 3-0, in an AYSO Region
57 boys under-10 soccer game Saturday.
Randall Mycorn had an assist. Goalkeepers Karl Fletcher and Crittenden
made numerous saves to earn the shutout. Nicholas Rich, Ned Atkins, A.J.
Santa Maria, Austin Barvin, Misha Pakvasa and Patrick Schoenberg had
solid performances.
In girls under-12 action:
* Strikers 1, Saguna Wahine 1 - Strong performances were turned in by
Alisha Agrellas, Stacee Ballback, Madelyne Todd, Sarah Wesley, Caitlin
Roberts, Corinne Treadaway, Julie Hassman, Leah Greenbaum, Morgan Wiener
and Jacklyn Liberman. Rene Mycorn and A.J. Rome shared goalkeeper duties.
In boys under-10 action:
* Mako Sharks 3, Mutants 0 - The undefeated Mako Sharks received two
goals from Chris Freeman and one from Nick Taormina. Midfielders
Sebastien Welch and Ryan Peyton shut down the Mutants’ offense. The
Sharks’ David Fenner, Taylor Battram, Ian Massoth, Chandler Mitchell,
Saahm Aresh, Cameron Koppel and Braydon Blackford contributed to the win.
In boys under-8 action:
* The Rockets took on the Blue Rapids and received goals from Andrew
McCormack, Joe Ctvrtlik and Eric Ctvrtlick. Strong defense was provided
by Hunter Heckendorn, Jack McBean, Ben Paul and Kevin Hoffman. Josh
Schwartz was solid in the net. The Blue Rapids had goals from Hutton
McKenna and Jack Gorab. Daniel Hohl, Zach Murtaugh, Matt Larson, Gianni
Multari and Nick Molinaro provided defensive support while Josh Giger
played well as goalkeeper.
* The Green Machine faced the Tornados. Cort Hastings led the team
with two goals and Brent Lawson had one. Garrett Brewer, Pete Rigas,
Brian Mull and C.J. Nugent played well. Goalkeepers Davis Case and Blake
Grable had solid performances.
* The Yellow Lightning battled the Black Devil Rays. Forward Hunter
Molnar scored two goals to lead the offense. Grant Hodgkins, Connor Lazar
and Michael Doering each added a goal. Jedd Thayer and Cole Kirby moved
the ball well in midfield. Contributing on defense were Demitrios Ingram,
Brooks Westervelt and Michael Bui.
In boys under-7 action:
* The Sharks had a a strong performance from James Christian, who
scored a goal and had an assist. Teddy Parks also scored a goal to lead
the Sharks’ offense. Logan Piper moved the ball well throughout the game.
Lance Seger, Max Mulcahy, Jack McInally and Sam Silverberg also
contributed to the team’s effort.
* The Green Rockets took on the Green Dragons. Goalkeepers Jackson
Pries and Nicholas Bergendahl made several key stops for the Green
Rockets. Niki Luna and Jason Vogel each scored a goal to lead the Green
Rockets’ offense.
* The Sharks earned a 2-0 victory with goals from Armon Alaghband and
Jeffrey Wallach. Noah Fields, Carter Keddington, James Valentine, Zachary
Fox, Calder Maloney, Spencer Carey and Michael Allen played well.
