College cross country: UCI women take second in conference

SAN LUIS OBISPO - UC Irvine sophomore Julie Manson and junior Tessa

Cendejas led the Anteaters’ women’s cross country team to a second-place

finish in the Big West Championships Saturday at the Cuesta

College/Fairbanks Memorial Course.

Manson finished seventh in 18:42.4, and Cendejas came in eighth in

18:45.1. Both runners earned All-Big West Conference honors.

The Anteaters’ second-place finish also came from contributions by

sophomore Kim Ramirez was 13th in 18:58.0, junior Amanda Armstrong 14th

(18:59.0), sophomore Jenna (23rd in 19:19.6), freshman Kaleena Yee (25th

in 19:20.3), and junior Lisa Massoth (32nd in 19:36.2).

Host Cal Poly SLO won the women’s title with 37 points as UC Irvine

finished second with 65 points in the nine-team field.

Katie Appenrodt of UCSB was the individual champion, capturing first

with a time of 17:47.8 on the 5,000-meter course.

The UCI men’s squad finished seventh with 187 points, as UC Santa

Barbara won the men’s title with 28 points

UCI junior Travis Morisoli was 30th in 27:27.5 and senior Jon Doroski

came in 31st in 27:28.7. Junior Brian Harrison was 34th (27:34.1),

freshman David Santos was 50th (28:11.3), senior Mike Arp 56th (28:35.3),

freshman Thomas Harley 57th (28:36.7), and junior Rob Evans was 64th in

29:10.9.

UCSB’s Eric Gans (25:56.4) and Josh Horton (25:59.2) finished 1-2,

respectively, on the 8,000-meter course.
