Jr. All-American Football: Jr. Clinic Seahawks have strong showing

The Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Football Junior Clinic

Seahawks defeated La Mirada, 20-7, to earn their first victory of the

season on Saturday.

The Seahawks’ offense came alive in the second quarter when Ryan

Andrews ran 42 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was added by

Michael Taormina. At the end of the first half, Taormina ran 60 yards for

the Seahawks’ second touchdown.

In the third quarter, Austin Blodgett made several moves to avoid La

Mirada defenders and sprinted 50 yards for a touchdown.

The offensive line, led by Andrew Machoskie, John Prickett, Kyle Orton

and Jake Hall, opened holes for the Seahawks running backs. Graeme Fraser

also contributed on offense, scoring one conversion and making several

key blocks that contributed to touchdown runs.

The Seahawks’ defense made numerous tackles behind the line of

scrimmage. The defense was led by Reid Johnson, Murphy Bartling, Ben

Greiner, Mario Rosales, Connor Quinn, Tyler Barbato and Buzzy Yokoyama.

In other NMJAAF action:

* Pee Wee Seahawks 39, South Gate Rams 0 - Carlo Valdes scored three

touchdowns on runs of 47, 53 and 56 yards to lead the Seahawks’ offense.

Quarterback Taylor Sepulveda scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and threw a

30-yard touchdown pass to Michael Jugan. Robbie Lusk capped the scoring

with a 5-yard touchdown run.

The Seahawks’ defense contributed to the team’s second shutout of the

year. Tommy Folks, Brett Hanrahan, Brian Lawler, Travis Prickett, Eric

Rask, P.J. Simpson, Richie Sorenson, Brice Stillman, Jon Tripi and Chaz

Vickery were strong on defense for the Seahawks (4-1).

Contributing on offense were Keifer Fairbanks, Justin Elbourn, Andrew

Hawkins, Bryce Jardine, Jake Lemmerman, James McKennon, Corbin McNutt,

Nick Reese, Frankie Russo, Jerry Whitney and Colin Wigely.

* Jr. Midget Seahawks 49, Corona Panthers 0 - The Seahawks had an

explosive first half offensively. Two minutes into the game Matt Loyd

scored on a 1-yard run. After Delano McKenzie blocked a punt, Matt Hauser

connected with Matt Reiger on a 12-yard touchdown pass. Ben Buttolph

finished the first quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run.

The Seahawks continued their offensive surge in the second quarter.

Matt Burgner and Tom Jackson scored on touchdown passes from Ryan Lance

to give the Seahawks a 37-0 halftime lead.

John Angelo ran 63 yards on a sweep early in the third to score

another touchdown for the Seahawks.

Defensive tackle Lou Truxton intercepted a Corona pass and ran 30

yards to end the third quarter for the game’s final touchdown.

Matt Hauser had two interceptions. Tony Jones and Matt Loyd each had

one. The Seahawks meet the Orange Chiefs West next with first place on

the line.
