As part of the Independent’s redesign, several staffing changes have

been made to the paper’s editing and reporting staff.

Danette Goulet, who has been a reporter at the Daily Pilot, the

Independent’s sister paper in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, has been

named assistant city editor. She will coordinate the paper’s coverage as

well as report on City Hall, the business community and other issues

affecting the city.

Goulet joined the Daily Pilot in October 1999 after working as a

reporter and columnist at the Boca Raton News in Florida. She is a

graduate of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.

Alicia Lopez has been named news editor of the Independent. She will

handle the majority of the paper’s feature stories and columnists as well

as its designing.

Lopez, a native of Southern California and a graduate of UC Berkeley,

joined Times Community News, which publishes the Independent, as a

designer after working as a copy editor and reporter for several

newspapers throughout Southern California.

Finally, Bryce Alderton has joined the staff as a news assistant.

Alderton is a recent graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

City Editor MaryBeth P. Adomaitis continues on maternity leave until

December.

The staff will work under Senior City Editor S.J. Cahn, who was named

to the position in June when the Independent’s redesign was launched.

Cahn, who grew up in Manhattan Beach, has a degree from the Missouri

Graduate School of Journalism. He joined Times Community News in August

1998 after working as a reporter in the Washington bureau of the St.

Louis Post-Dispatch and on the copy desk of the Kansas City Star.

All members of the staff will report to Editor Tony Dodero.
