1. A WELCOME BACK. The USS Zephyr will moor alongside the Pride of

Newport, also known as the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum, about 12:45

p.m. Friday as she is greeted by a contingent of boats and a flyover by a

Grumman F7F Tigercat. The Zephyr will depart Monday morning for her home

port at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado. The Newport Harbor

2. DANCE THE WEEKEND AWAY. The Southern California Indian Center

Inc.’s 33rd annual Pow Wow will be held Friday through Sunday at the

Orange County Fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. The gate will open

at 2 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. Features will

include an arts and crafts show, more than $20,000 in prize money and

food. All dance contestants must have proof of tribal enrollment. (714)

3. BECOME AN EXPERT OVERNIGHT. A one-day volunteer training

orientation to Newport Bay will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at

the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center, 2301 University Drive,
