66TH ANNUAL FLIGHT OF THE LASERS

Get ready, get set, go! Newport Harbor will be filled with laser-class

sailboats competing around a five-mile course today for the 66th annual

Flight of the Lasers. Sponsored in part by the Newport Harbor Area

Chamber of Commerce’s Commodore’s Club, the one-person sailboat race is

an annual tradition among local sailors.

The starting line is located off of Balboa Island’s shore, east of the

Balboa Pavilion. The course will take sailors past the Lido Isle Yacht

Club, Lido Village and the Harbor Master’s office before steering them

back toward the starting point.

Around 100 people are expected to enter in this year’s competition.

When: Race starts at 1:10 p.m.

Parents, go ahead and take the night off

KIDS NIGHT OUT

The city of Costa Mesa is sponsoring a Kids Night Out excursion --

complete with supervision -- to Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey circus

from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday in order to give parents a chance to take a

night off. Registration for the event will close Wednesday.

What: Kids Night Out at Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey

Where: Kids will meet at Balearic Community Center, 1975 Balearic

Drive, Costa Mesa, and be taken to the circus at the Anaheim Pond.

When: 2 to 11 p.m. Friday. Registration closes Wednesday.

Cost: $20 per participant, includes supervision, transportation,

admission, snack and parking
