Daniel Hilger, 14, won top honors in fine arts at the 22nd annual

Youth Exposition held at the Orange County Fair and Exposition Center in

April. . . . Monica Lee Hartsock was namedto the dean’s list for the

winter term 2001 at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. . . . The following

were named Duke’s Huntington Beach fall 2000 and winter 2001 athletes of

the month: Shaun Ward, Nick Kabin, Brandon Guilmette, Adam Cravens, Sean

Rios, Brad Ettinger, Willie Safreed and Jordan Brock, boys’surf team,

Huntington Beach High School; Heather Coran, Laura Roberts, Jessica

Bowland, Kristen Oakley, Christie McGuiness, Erin Roberts, Kelly Keenan,

Marlissa Mikaelian and Malia Mikaelian, girls’ surf team, Huntington

Beach High; AJ Martinez,Darryl Posten and Richard Schwartz, boys’

football, Edison High School. The MVPs from Edison were Seth Prelesnik

and Ashley Arriola, and Ward and Roberts were the MVPs from Huntington

Beach High. . . . Ali H. Zalzala has joined The MONY Group’s MONY Life

Insurance Co. as financial professional. . . . Carol Pierson, Joan

McDonald, Mai Linh Nguyen and Robin Bohnen were inducted into the Iota

Eta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor society of nursing

at Cal State Long Beach. . . . Eugenie Shieh was a recipient of a 2001

Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Scholarship. She received a $1,000 college

scholarship. . . . Diane Dereszynski received the Dorothy J. Oliver

Scholarship from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
