Huntington Beach’s Joshua Smith became the first Green Valley Swim

Team member to break four records in a single meet by a 5- 6-year-old

division swimmer.

Two of the records broken by Smith, 6, had stood for 17 years. He set the new mark in the 25-yard breaststroke in 22.37 and the 25-yard

backstroke, 21.38.

The Grace Lutheran Elementary School first-grader also set records in

the 25-yard freestyle (16.72) and the 25-yard butterfly (19.53).

When asked what he thought of breaking all four records in one meet,

Smith responded by saying, “It’s cool.”

It could be a big year for Smith, who accomplished the feat in just

the first dual meet of the season. He is the defending champion in the

butterfly and breaststroke in the 5- 6-year-old division of the South

Coast Swimming Conference.

In addition, Smith will receive his recommended black belt in

Taekwondo on June 12.
