Joseph E. Wrkich, a 1997 graduate of Costa Mesa High School and an
Irvine Spectrum scholar, will graduate from Cal State Fullerton, where he
majored in physics and minored in business administration and
mathematics. He spent two years researching electron scattering. Wrkich
is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Phi Eta
Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. . . . . Christopher R. Rakunas,
the son of Raymond and Laura Rakunas of Costa Mesa, has received a degree
in molecular and cellular biology, with an emphasis on genetics and
development, from UC Berkeley. . . . Newport Beach residents Madeleine
Marin-Finn, Lillian Gavin and Richard Harris have been elected to the
board of Habitat for Humanity’s Orange County affiliate. . . . Koll
Development Co., a real estate company based in Newport Beach, has
promoted Stephen J. Muller to senior vice president and controller,
responsible for all aspects of the company’s accounting, economic
forecasting and financial reporting. A graduate of USC’s Marshall School
of Business, he joined Koll in August. . . . Newport Harbor Girl Scout
Troop 1343 Maui Rah Nova members Aimee Yvette Boatman and Julia Hoerauf
have been awarded the Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting, for
renovating church youth rooms at their respective places of worship. Only
about 12% of Orange County’s senior Girl Scouts earn the award, and the
national average is about 6%. . . . Athena Anderson of Coto de Caza has
been elected chairwoman of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s
Orange County Race for the Cure to be held Sept. 23 at Fashion Island in
Newport Beach. Anderson has been with the race since its inception in
1992, serving on its public relations committee.
