Glabman Furniture is having a first-time ever demonstration on the
ancient practice of rug-making Friday, shown by master weavers from
India. Giant looms will be used to show the way rugs have been made for
centuries. The public is invited to watch the event, which is sponsored
by the Untied Nations Development Program. There also will be an
internationally renowned rug expert, Nasser Rahmanan, who will have a
presentation on what to look for in a handcrafted rug and how to avoid
being taken advantage of when buying a rug. Topics in his presentation
will include the following: is the rug machine or hand made; how to
determine the materials used; how to inspect the knot count; counting
colors; and why not to be concerned with weight. The seminar will be held
in conjunction with the demonstration at noon and 3 p.m. “We are
delighted to welcome these artisans from India who will mark their debut
in the United States here at our showroom,” said Kathy Jarvis of Glabman
Furniture in a press release. “This is a rare opportunity to witness the
amazing artistry of these craftsmen as they demonstrate the skills that
were passed down to them by their ancestors for centuries. Just as the
painstaking process of rug-making has remained unchanged, so too has the
splendor of their hand-woven creations.” Call (714) 540-3822 to make a
reservation. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Glabman
