Boys volleyball: Tars win one, drop one
SANTA BARBARA - The Newport Harbor boys volleyball team finished
with a 1-1 record after one day of action in the 16-team Santa Barbara
Tournament Friday.
The Sailors (8-6) began the day with a 15-5, 15-3, 15-13 victory over
host Santa Barbara. Newport Harbor later lost to 29-0 Bear River of
Sacramento, 15-12, 14-16, 18-16, 15-7.
Tars senior Blake Tippett had 32 kills against Bear River, while
junior Erik Peterson finished with 17 kills on the day, 10 against Santa Barbara. Greg Perrine contributed 10 kills against Bear River and Loyd
Wright had 63 assists.
Newport Harbor will play today at 9 a.m. as the Sailors best result is
a fifth-place finish.
“I don’t think I made good enough adjustments,” Coach Dan Glenn said
of the loss. “We have to get better at adjusting before the playoffs.”
