Boys volleyball: Mesa earns first PCL win over rival
COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High boys volleyball coach Dave Sorrells
said his Mustangs played their best match of the season as they defeated
crosstown rival Estancia, 13-15, 15-6, 15-8, 15-6.
Mesa junior Carlos Jaime finished with six blocks and nine kills,
while senior Mike Payne had 12 kills and Eli Solis slammed 11 kills for
the host Mustangs (2-8, 1-5 in league).
“This is a huge, huge win,” Sorrells said. “I am extremely pleased
with the overall team effort. Everyone deserves credit.”
Estancia (1-5 in league) was led by Don Phan (13 kills), Dan Woda
(11), John Lindsay (eight), as well as 32 assists from setter Nick
Rycroft.
Both teams are off for spring recess and will resume PCL competition
April 25.
