Coast wins third straight
COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College’s badminton team reached another
milestone in its first season Friday, improving to 5-4 overall with a
20-1 rout of visiting East Los Angeles, the first time the Pirates have
been able to get past the .500 mark.
Coast’s Cynthia Tran paved the way again for the Pirates, winning both
of her matches at No. 1 singles, 11-1, 11-4 over Nattha Thongkumphiu and
and 11-1, 11-0 win over Chire Pi-Mei. Tran is now 16-0 and has outscored
her opponents, 352-87.
Alissa Huynh, Hoaimi Nguyen, Rana Duszynski and Tina Nguyen also went
2-0 in singles and Thalia Marionos won a singles match, as well.
Tran and Hoaimi Nguyen teamed to win both of their doubles matches, as
did Duszynski and Tina Nguyen. Huynh and Ane Nielsen won their only
doubles match.
The Bucs return to action Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to
San Diego Mesa.
