NJB: Newport-Mesa wins three straight over weekend
The Newport-Mesa sixth grade girls National Junior Basketball team
ripped out three straight wins to win the NJB Rawlings All-Net National
Tournament last weekend.
On Saturday morning at Chapman University, Newport-Mesa pulled out a
32-14 win over Escondido. Sami Field-Polisso led the way with 13 points,
while Ivy Melo added nine and Allie Duernberger chipped in seven. Laura
Boggein and Kaily Carich led the club with strong rebounding and solid
defense.
Saturday night at Tustin High, Newport-Mesa edged out a squad from
Natomas, 34-30. Erica Weedn led all scorers with 13 points, while Field-Polisso contributed 12 and Melo added nine. The defense was
anchored by Hilary Pool and Chelsea McCrea
Newport-Mesa made it three in a row with a 30-23 win over Fontana
Sunday at Orange Coast College. Field-Polisso had 11 points, while Meso
added seven. Laura Boggeln (six), Becca Turk (two) and Duernberger (two)
also contributed to Newport-Mesa’s success.
