Reading Dave Sullivan’s Letter to the Editor (Dettloff caught in

possible conflict of interest, March 8), “it is now clear that she

[Dettloff] had agreed to support the developers’ plan,” shocked me.

Having known Shirley Dettloff for over 20 years, I have seen her as an

elected official (council member) and appointed official (Coastal

Commission, Planning Commission).

As an “official,” Dettloff has always taken action based on the law

and what she felt was best for the entire community.

It doesn’t take a brain surgeon, or retired dentist, to figure out

that last year Dettloff took the lead role in gaining a unanimous vote of

the Coastal Commission to deny the Hearthsideplan to develop homes on 200

acres of the Bolsa Chica mesa.

For 30 years, Dettloff has dedicated herself to protecting the quality

of life in Huntington Beach, and now the entire California coast.
