ON THE AGENDA
Energy Options
The school board is expected to hear a third presentation today from
Energy Education Inc., a company that offers an energy management program
designed specifically for schools. The company claims there is no risk
and huge future savings.
What to expect: The board is interested in, yet skeptical of, the
potential savings. As the energy crisis continues, however, board members
may consider the proposal more seriously.
Alternate school calendarLast year, an alternate school calendar
was proposed and adopted after several revisions. The result was the
current schedule, which includes such changes as the recent Presidents
Week holiday instead of several Mondays off. Parents and teachers will be
surveyed in the spring to determine how the new calendar worked for them
this school year.
What to expect: The board will consider adopting a school calendar for
next year that is similar to this year’s schedule.
Art Education Month
In December, the California State Board of Education adopted a
resolution proclaiming the month of March to be Arts Education Month. The
proclamation supports the visual and performing arts as essential and
integral pieces to the basic education of students.
What to expect: The board plans to jump on board with the State Board
of Education and likewise proclaim March to be Arts in Education Month in
the district.
