The Design Exchange is a new interior design showroom that opened on

East 17th Street in Costa Mesa. It specializes in home furnishings,

accents, show samples, close-outs and overruns. Its flagship store opened

in January 1999 in Laguna Niguel. The Laguna Niguel store has become very

popular with interior designers. “If you shop in the store, you will find

that our average price is about 50% below standard retail,” says co-owner

Bill Blaine. “Also, because we are in the wholesale end of the business,

we are consistently apprised of the latest trends in model home design

and introductions in the industry. This allows us to keep our look fresh

planning upcoming workshops to help you complete or start on scrapbooks

or photo albums. From 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, there is a “midnight

madness workshop” for people who want to work on albums. The workshop

costs $18 and includes dinner. On Jan. 20, there will be a “power layout

class,” offered through the city of Newport Beach Parks and Recreation

Services, and on Jan. 21 there will be a Bordermania workshop from 1 to 7

p.m., where you can make 60 borders for albums. A morning workshop will

be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 22. A first-timers class is offered

from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 25 for $10. Creative Memories is a company

that offers archival albums and supplies for photos and scrapbooks.
