Girls basketball: Seahawks top Tars
COSTA MESA - The Newport Harbor High girls basketball team cut a
20-point halftime deficit to nine Friday, but fell to Ocean View, 48-37,
in the fifth-place semifinals of the Costa Mesa Winter Classic at Costa
Mesa High.
Newport junior Evita Castilla had 14 points, 13 rebounds (nine
offensive), five assists and three steals and spearheaded the Tars’ 18-10
fourth-quarter advantage with seven points.
Newport (2-10), which got eight assists and four points from Athena
Vasquez, as well as eight points and eight rebounds from Lindsay Woller,
will meet Fountain Valley today in the 3 p.m. game for seventh place.
