Debbie O’Connor and Andrew Theodorou helped collect donated goods at a

recent charity drive sponsored by Newport Dunes. O’Connor is the

executive director of Friends in Service to Humanity, and Theodorou is

general manager of the waterfront resort. The Dunes gathered food items,

staple goods, clothes and toys for homeless families in South Orange

County ... Marcy Middler was appointed to be the clinical supervisor of

the Jewish Family Service of Orange County in Costa Mesa. The Laguna

Beach resident is a UCLA and Cal State Northridge graduate. She has

experience in treating anxiety and depression, stress management,

biofeedback, mediation, and marriage and family counseling. The group is

a counseling and social service agency serving the greater Orange County

area. Its services include refugee resettlement, care management, older

adults services, a free loan program and a Jewish healing center ...

Orange Coast College announced it ranks eighth in the nation in the

number of international students the school enrolls. The American Assn.

of Community Colleges reported that of more than 1,200 community

colleges, Orange Coast College ranks high on the list with 1,118

international students. The college ranks third in the state. Five years

ago, it ranked 19th in the nation ... Karen Mortillaro, an art professor

at Orange Coast College, was given the Community Service-Learning

Superior Collaboration Award by the Chancellor’s Office of the California

Community Colleges. Mortillaro is an award-winning artist who has been a

member of OCC’s faculty for 30 years ... Ransom, a 4-year-old sorrel

gelding owned by Kathie and John Bobenrieth of Costa Mesa, took first

place in the $400,000 Champion of Champions G1 at Los Alamitos Race

Course in Los Alamitos. The gelding covered a 440-yard race in 21:460.

The horse was ridden by Carlos Bautista. The award for a first-place

finish was $200,000... Janice Parks was named vice president of social

marketing at Lawrence, Mayo & Ponder, an advertising agency in Newport

Beach. Parks will supervise advertising and marketing activities on

behalf of agency clients. She joined the group in 1998 as an account

executive. Her previous experience includes seven years with Orange

County’s United Way.
