TUSTIN - The Costa Mesa High boys soccer team blew open a close

game with three second-half goals en route to a 5-1 nonleague win over

host Tustin Thursday afternoon.

Eli Solis and Trinidad Hernandez each had two goals for the Mustangs

(3-3-1), while Zack Powell chipped in with a single goal.

“We were able to put it totally together out there today, which was

nice to see,” Mesa Coach Eugene Day said.

Day was also pleased with the strong play of junior defender Stephen

Thomas. “He was a monster for us in the middle,” Day said. “Tustin

actually stopped trying to go to the middle after a while because of

him.”

Goalie Bryce Sheridan had six saves for the Mustangs, who resume

action today at the Magnolia Tournament against Cerritos. Game time is 3

p.m.
