Inside City Hall
WHAT HAPPENED
The Costa Mesa City Council this week asked its staff to research
possible ways to revise a city ordinance so community organizations could
use city facilities.
WHAT IT MEANS
The council was considering allowing the Service Organization Council,
a collaboration of city nonprofit organizations, to continue to use City
Hall for its quarterly meetings.
The group, which began meeting years ago at the request of the city,
also requested postage for an annual mailer.
The current ordinance requires groups to have nonprofit status before
being allowed to use city facilities.
The Service Organization Council is not nonprofit itself but is made
up of nonprofits.
It will not be allowed to use City Hall until the council considers a
new ordinance.
Councilman Gary Monahan dissented, saying he will help the Service
Organization Council find a meeting place through private connections.

WHAT HAPPENED
The council unanimously approved the restoration and development of
Huscroft House to the early-1900 period for use as a cultural museum.
WHAT IT MEANS
The 85-year-old, two-story house, donated to the city in 1998, will be
moved to Fairview Park.
Concrete will be laid for its foundation. The city will try to attract
service and money donors to help restore the house.
WHAT WAS SAID
“As we go forward, we’re going to need a budget with the requirements
in detail and the funding opportunities so we’ll know what we’re on the
dime for,” Monahan said.
