Huntington Beach Stars capture invitational title

The Huntington Beach Stars out of AYSO Region 143 won all six of their

games last weekend to capture the Cerritos Invitational Tournament title.

The Stars met league rival Long Beach in the championship match and

emerged from a defensive struggle with a 1-0 victory.

Nikki Freiborg scored the winning goal with five minutes to play in

the final quarter.

Goalkeeper Gena Johnson recorded numerous key saves throughout the

tournament, including a penalty kick save, and earned the team’s most

valuable player award.

In pool play, the Stars defeated Los Alamitos, La Habra and Cypress.

In medal round play, the Stars defeated Arcadia in a quarterfinal match,

then Cypress again in the semifinal round.

Ashley Beanblossom, Alexandra Jaspers, Loren Kortizija, Maddy Love,

Ann Ludolph, Lauren Peaslee, Sami Rodden, Lindsey Rodgers, Rachel Rojas,

Lauren Swensen, Krista Thompson, Whitney Thornton and Mary Ann Watson all

gave outstanding tournament performances for the Stars (12-1-3 overall), who posted four tournament shutouts and outscored their six opponents,

11-2.

Girls’ Under-12 Division

Hot Shots 3, Wild Things 1

Patricia Khamis scored two goals, and Aida Khamis scored once to lead

the Hot Shots, who also received strong play from Coryn Painter, Allison

Renth, Nicole Beauregard and Katie Barnes.

Perscilla Reid scored one goal, and Kirsta Andrew and Trisha Patel

also gave key performances for the Wild Things.

Melonblast 5, Girls with Attitude 3

Melonblast received two goals from Megan Towles and single scores by

Vanessa Gomez, Alysia Soria and Yanira Hernandez.

For the Girls with Attitude, Viviana Palacio scored twice, Jillian

Luke scored one goal, and Ashley Nguyen and Julia Cruz contributed to the

attack.

REGION 56

South Coast Pier Pressure wins, ties

The South Coast Pier Pressure, a girls’ Under-13 Division team, used

Melinda Rackliff’s goal to post a 1-0 victory over Orange Coast United

Rush at Estancia High. Pier Pressure (5-4-4) followed that triumph with a

tie at 1 with the ASC Express in Anaheim, with Brooke Bashore scoring for

Pier Pressure.

Boys’ Under-10 Division

The division recently named its All-Star team, which is comprised of

Robert Sadler, Joshua Ardis, Cheyne Arteritano, Kyle Ball, Aaron Birk,

J.B. Bryant, John Dachroeden, Kyle Ferree, Cam Harlin, Sal La Cavera,

Spencer Lee, Brett Sadler, Matthew Sarvak and Dan Arteritano.
