Orange Coast United Rush wins tourney
The Orange Coast United Rush under-12 girls’ soccer team won the
Before Christmas Classic tournament by defeating Chino Hills Nitemare
Gold, 2-1, in the title match Sunday at Ayala High School in Chino Hills.
Robin Ibbetson scored on a header off Courtney Anderson’s corner kick,
and Anderson also scored off another corner kick in the final.
Orange Coast United Rush earned a spot in the championship match by
winning two of its first three matches.
Ibbetson scored the lone goal in a 1-0 verdict over the Yucaipa
Spartans; Brittany Koster scored off an assist by Cindy Mendoza in a 1-0
victory over the Chino Hills Nitemare Gold team; and Anderson’s corner
kick set up a header into the net by Sasha Key in a 1-1 tie with the Murietta Hawks.
A strong defensive performance paved the way to the tournament title
for Orange Coast United Rush, which was paced by goalkeeper Tori Rocke,
Elyse VanLeer, Amanda Shaw, Jennifer Powell, Brianna Baker, Chelsea
Wisdom and Niki Castillo.
Contributing on offense were Samantha Castillo, Amy Staudinger, Jaque
Anderson and Ali Torres.
