WHAT HAPPENED:

The city’s Planning Commission OK’d a plan to build 189 detached

single-family homes at the southwest corner of Palm Avenue and Goldenwest

Street.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Newport Beach-based PLC Land Co. will build The Boardwalk, a

residential development on about 53 acres at the intersection of Palm

Avenue and Goldenwest Street. The plan also includes a three and a

half-acre neighborhood park, which will be accessible to residents within

the development, as well as to anyone living in the area around Palm

Avenue.

About six acres of the site will be reserved for a future multifamily

project, which will allow pedestrian access to the park.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Commissioners voted to continue to discuss the Huntington Central Park

Equestrian Center’s plan for a number of construction projects and new

amenities.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Planning Commission was slated to discuss the equestrian center’s

plan to add 20 new corrals, additional office trailers, horsewash racks

and work stations, as well as a 4,000-square-foot maintenance yard,

manure bunkers and a decomposed granite and sandstone storage area. The

plan would also reduce the number of required horse-trailer parking

spaces from 42 to six.

Ricky Ramos, an associate planner for the city, said several

outstanding issues, including water quality, erosion control and possible

revision to the center’s site plan, remain unresolved, prohibiting a full

discussion on the proposed additions.
