Girls tennis: Yelsey, Singer lead CdM

LAGUNA BEACH - Anne Yelsey swept at No. 1 singles for Corona del

Mar High and Kim Singer made her season debut with a sweep at No. 2

singles as the Sea Kings defeated host Laguna Beach, 12-6, in a Pacific

Coast League girls tennis opener Thursday.

Singer, a junior who has recovered from a shoulder injury, was down

3-5 and love-40 in her first set, then came back to win, 7-6, including

at love in the tie-breaker, 7-0.

CdM (6-1), which also received a solid effort from senior Kristen

Griffith at No. 3 singles with two wins, featured a new doubles team with

Leslie Damion and Brittany Holland, who swept at No. 1 doubles. It is possible they will remain a doubles team when Brittany Reitz becomes

eligible Oct. 16.

The Sea Kings, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, face Northwood and Costa

Mesa next week in PCL play, then play in the CdM-Pavilions All-American

Classic.

Singles - Yelsey (CdM) def. Butterwick, 6-0, def. Johnson, 6-0, def.

Reed, 6-1; Singer (CdM) won 7-6 (7-0), 6-3, 6-1; Griffith (CdM) lost 4-6,

won 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles - Damion-Holland (CdM) def. MacGillivray-Tucker, 7-5, def.

Ward-Barron-Sandman, 6-0, def. Steinle-Murray, 6-0; Claster-Tenerelli

(CdM) lost 2-6, 4-6, won 7-5; Cancellieri-Minna (CdM) lost 0-6, 0-6, 1-6.
