Girls golf: CdM welcomes Northwood with a loss

NEWPORT BEACH - Corona del Mar High girls golf team defeated

Pacific Coast League newcomer Northwood, 134-156, at Newport Beach

Country Club.

The Sea Kings’ Allison Schauppner was the medalist as she shot a 43.

CdM’s Kristin McCoy shot a 45 for second place and Taylor McCormick with

a 46 took third.

CdM Coach Mike Starkweather said he was impressed with Northwood, a

team that is in its first varsity year in the PCL.

Starkweather was also impressed with his own team, though he expected

better scores. CdM improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Sea Kings are now preparing for next week’s challenging schedule

that has them facing Santa Margarita Oct. 2, Estancia the following day

and University on Oct. 5.

“Those are three big matches for us,” Starkweather said.
