Newport Beach painting buffs are invited to participate in the city’s

first Halloween window-painting contest.

Everyone from kindergartners to adults can participate in the event,

as long as they use drop cloths to protect buildings and sidewalks. The

artwork, which will be painted on store windows, will stay up until Nov.

2.

Painters will have to bring their own materials with them. Only water

colors--tempera paint--are permitted. Dark backgrounds won’t be allowed

because they may crack the windows.

The painting will take be done from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at

Bayside Center at on Bayside Drive at Jamboree Road; Newport North Center

on Bison Avenue at MacArthur Boulevard; and Westcliff Plaza on Westcliff

Drive at Irvine Avenue.

Registration forms can be picked up at the city’s community services

department at City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd.
