AYSO Region 57: Red Devils like the number 2
The number two was the magic number for the AYSO Region 57 Red
Devils (under-12).
It took two goals for the Red Devils to beat the Funky Monkeys.
For the Red Devils’, the win was victory No. 2.
And for the second week in a row, Ryan Lanni and Taylor Henderson
provided the scoring for the Red Devils victory. Morgan Brombei was the
key to the two scores as she set up both goals.
Spencer Singh, Ryan Wheeler, Alex Neff and Max Rollins all led the
defensive pressure to ensure the one-goal margin.
In other AYSO Region 57 action:
White Tigers 2, Silver Baboons 0
The White Tigers (under-12) got two quick goals by Steve Hillgren and
Matt Moore in the first quarter. The match then became a tough battle
with the Silver Baboons’ Dean Posposil and Aman Sahni pressing hard but
to no avail. Holding off the charge with solid defensive play was Cameron
Morreale, Andy Morrow, Kyle Tomlin, Riley Sullivan and Curtis Converse.
Chick Magnets 1, The Wedge 0
The Chick Magnets (under-12) edged past The Wedge as Colton Dillion
led a pass to Patrick Suozzi for the winning score.
The Chick Magnets offense missed on several scoring opportunities
before Suozzi knocked one in the goal.
Strong midfield support for the Chick Magnets was turned in by Austin
Harris, Geoff Machin and Daniel Kernan.
Key defensive plays for the win came from Michael Page, Jeremy Hyter,
Torn Hutchinson, Ryan Brown and goalkeeper Nick Taylor.
Red Raiders 1, Orange Revenge 0
In another close match, the Red Raiders slipped past the Orange
Revenge.
The Red Raiders’ Nick Freeman scored a goal early. The Orange Revenge,
however, had a great scoring opportunity denied when Francis Krahe made
an outstanding defensive play just before the ball could roll into the
net.
Andy Rovzar and Shian Jalali of the Red Raiders kept the pressure on
with shots at Taylor Otto, the Orange Revenge’s goalie.
The Red Raiders defense provided the difference in the match as Grant
Hefferan, Ford Noe and Preston Oklejas sealed the victory.
In AYSO Region 57 girls Division 5 action:
Riptide 2, Blue Strikers 1
The Riptide defeated the Blue Strikers as goalie Shari Mead saved what
could have been the match-tying goal.
Riptide forwards Heather Van Heil and Adrienne Dreyfus scored one goal
each with help from Cynthia Bui. Solid Riptide defense was provided by
Sarah Carvelli, Reiley O’Brien and Kristen Nassif.
Galaxy Girls 4, Hot Shots 1
The Galaxy Girls’ Kelly Matthews scored two goals and MacKenzie Jones
and Alexandra Turner kicked in a goal each to lead their team past the
Hot Shots.
Lesley Kasmerek, Victoria Kennedy, Tess Crane and Tori Molenda
controlled the defense for the Galaxy Girls. And for the midfield, Valen
Taylor, Katie Deverian, Allison Deverian and McKenzie Brown dominated.
In Girls under-10 action:
Dream Team 2, Tornadoes 0
The Dream Team defeated the Tornadoes in a hard-fought match. Dream
Teamer Michelle Marshall started the scoring with a blast in the left
corner of the net. And Christine Light scored with a hard shot form the
top of the penalty area. The defense from fullbacks Samantha Mangione and
Annie Rafferty preserved the shutout.
Red Hot Chili Peppers 1, All Stars 0
The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Erin McAdams scored the winning goal and
was assisted by forwards Kelli Feeley, Mackenna Ferguson, Ashleigh Smigh.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ defensive teamwork was displayed by Maddy
Bendetti, Faith Greiner, Gioia Licorish and goalies McKenna Caskey and
Victoria Kent. Halfbacks, Alexandra Reinach and Jacqueline Urbanus
supported with the goal scoring.
