o7 The three possible phases of the trial of Steven Allen Abrams:

f7

* GUILT PHASE -- Just concluded, this portion of the trial determined

the question of whether Abrams premeditated and committed the playground

murders. He was found guilty of all charges.

* SANITY PHASE -- Scheduled to begin Monday, this part of the trial

will address the question of Abrams’ mental competence. If he is found to

be legally insane, he will be deemed “not guilty by reason of insanity”

and will be committed to a mental health facility for treatment. He could

be released from this facility at some point in the future. If Abrams is

not found to be insane, a third phase of the trial will determine an

appropriate punishment for him.

* PUNISHMENT PHASE -- Only two punishment options exist for crimes as

severe as those committed by Abrams: life in prison without the

possibility of parole, or death.
