NHB girls U-11 Gold team takes title
The North Huntington Beach Soccer Club’s girls Under-11 Gold team
captured the Surf Cup Tournament championship Thursday in Del Mar.
NHB wrapped up the championship with a 2-0 victory over the Slammers,
with Caitlin Wallace and Mackenzie Scott each scoring a goal.
The team’s road to the championship began with a 1-0 shutout of the
South West Soccer Club, with NHB getting the victory on a Natalie Pierson
penalty kick. They followed that win with a 3-1 win against the same
Slammers team they would meet in the final, with Erica Seidman scoring
twice and Katie Avetoon getting one goal.
NHB continued bracket play with a 1-1 tie against the San Ramon Surge,
with Avetoon recording the tying goal.
The semifinal round save Wallace score the match’s lone goal in a 1-0
victory over the De Anza Strikers.
NHB goalie Shannon Simpson had an outstanding tournament, allowing
just two goals in five games. Simpson received plenty of defensive
support from Taylor Campbell, Kyla Fenning, Monica Garcia, and Beth Ward.
Midfielding chores were handled by Kerry Leslie and Cory Yoshida, and
offensively, NHB was powered by Charney Burk and Natalie Zandt.
The NHB girls Under-11 Gold team is coached by Abner Rogers and Robyn
Kobayashi.
