Swimming: Mackey wins five races for Zots
IRVINE - Newport Harbor High sophomore and Irvine AquaZot member
Nicole Mackey won five women’s A races at the AquaZot swim meet at UC
Irvine last weekend.
Mackey was first in the 50-meter freestyle (27.60), 100 free (58.88),
100 backstroke (1:06.95), 100 breaststroke (1:15.57) and the 200 breast
(2:42.53).
Newport Harbor student Jennifer Arrow placed third in the women’s A
200 free with a 2:31.08. Kim McKay had four women’s top 10 finishes. She was fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:11.97) and 200 individual medley
(2:35.50), sixth in the 50 free (30.12), and seventh in the 100 free
(1:04.64).
Among other local swimmers, Stephanie Gabert had seven top 10 finishes
in 7-10 girls A events. Her best placing was second in the 50 breast
(39.96) and the 100 breast (1:28.13). She was also third in the 200 free
(2:33.84), fourth in the 200 IM (2:53.90) and 100 free (1:10.83), sixth
in the 50 free (33.52), and 10th in the 50 fly (38.10).
In the boys races, Trevor Jones placed seventh in the 7-10 A 100
backstroke with a 1:43.43, and Alexander Swanson was eighth in the 50 A
backstroke with a 41.50.
