Four held on drug-, gun-related charges
-- Sue Doyle
Newport Beach Police detectives on Tuesday arrested four people on
suspicion of possessing drugs, drug paraphernalia and a gun at a home in
Santa Ana Heights.
Angelo Joseph Failla, 19, of Huntington Beach, and Jessica Suzanne
Sanders, 19, of Santa Ana Heights, were booked Tuesday on suspicion of
possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell. Jason Edward Cary,
34, of Santa Ana Heights, was arrested for illegal possession of a
firearm. Amy Shiver, 26, of Santa Ana Heights, was arrested for
possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
Authorities first noticed Failla with a gun in a driveway in the 2000
block of Orchid Street, said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Mike McDermott.
Failla saw the officers, ran into the home, locked the doors and tried to
escape through the back door, police said. Officers caught him in the
backyard.
Failla is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and Cary is held in lieu of
$10,000 bail at Newport Beach Jail. Sanders and Shiver were booked at
Orange County Jail. All four will be arraigned Thursday at Harbor Justice
Center.
Authorities confiscated a few ounces of methamphetamine, scales and
packaging materials inside the Orchid Street home, police said.
In addition, police said Cary’s revolver was allegedly stolen during a
recent burglary. The tips of the bullets in the gun were filled with
mercury to make them poisonous, McDermott said.
In April, authorities arrested four other people at the same house for
narcotics offenses. During that bust, police uncovered four pounds of
methamphetamine and $54,000.
