Costa Mesa officials today will honor four people who in their lives

spent thousands of hours volunteering for the city.

They will lay plaques at the Circle of Service, which surrounds the

fountain at the Neighborhood Community Center, commemorating Roy Andreen,

Betty Jean Beecher, Charles Beecher and Sandy Pinkerton.

Andreen, former president of the Mesa Verde Homeowners Assn., helped

create TeWinkle Park, the Orange County Fairgrounds and was involved in

the founding of Orange Coast College.

Betty Jean and Charles Beecher volunteered for 30 years collecting

artifacts for the Costa Mesa Historical Society and sharing their

knowledge at Estancia Adobe.

Sandy Pinkerton served on the Parks Commission from 1997 until her recent

death. She was active in the Girl Scouts and several PTAs.

The ceremony will include speeches from family members of the four

honorees and Mayor Gary Monahan. A reception will follow at the Community

Center.

It begins at 11 a.m. in the patio area of the Neighborhood Community

Center, 1845 Park Ave.
