The first session of the three-day Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lion’s Club

“Fish Fry and Carnival” will be cooked up from 5 to 11 p.m. June 2 at 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. The 55th annual community event includes

food and entertainment. It continues from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 3

and noon to 11 p.m. June 4. Admission is free. For information, call

The Newport Harbor Lawn Bowling Club will host a visitor’s day at 10 a.m.

June 3 at 1550 Crown Drive North in Newport Beach. Refreshments will be

The Balboa Island Business Assn. will celebrate “Treasure Island: Jewel

of the Bay,” its seventh annual Balboa Island Parade, at 11 a.m. June 4

with a procession along Balboa Island’s Main Street. For more

Fathers and their families are invited to participate in Newport Dunes

Resort’s pre-Father’s Day Beach Olympic Games beginning at 1 p.m. June

17. Activities will include a water balloon shot put, shoe kick fling,

obstacle course decathlon, bubble gum 50-yard dash and butler’s 20-yard

relay. At 9 a.m. June 18, the Dunes’ Back Bay Cafe will present its

annual buffet-style champagne brunch. There is no cost for the Dunes’

Beach Olympic Games. The brunch is $18.95 for adults and $10.95 for

children ages 7 through 12. Children ages 6 and under are free.

The community is invited to a “bang” of a celebration as Newport Dunes

Resort hosts its 42nd annual Fourth of July extravaganza. The fireworks

show will feature a spectacular “wall of gold,” scores of red, blue,

green and silver chrysanthemums to bloom across the sky, a waterfall of

fire and sweeping comets of color over the Back Bay. The 30-minute

pyrotechnic display will begin at 9 p.m. following a daylong series of

events. The Dunes will feature carnival games, crafts, face painting and

drawings by a caricaturist as well as visits by Uncle Sam and resort

mascot Moe B. Dunes. To make reservations or for more information, call

Beginning on July 14, the Orange County Fair & Exposition Center will

present a concert series. The series will feature Jose Feliciano on July

14; Rain, a tribute to the Beatles, on July 16; the Everly Brothers on

July 18th; Isaac Hayes on July 20; Taylor Dayne on July 22; Freddy Fender

on July 23; “Weird Al” Yankovic on July 24; and Rick Springfield on July

25. Performances are from 7 to 9 p.m. Concerts are free with fair
