Pirates, Cards take two

The Pirates and Cardinals emerged with a pair of victories last

week in Majors Division play at Seaview Little League.

The Pirates toppled the Dodgers, 7-4, behind the complete game pitching

effort of Nick McEachin, which included five hits and seven strikeouts.

Offensively, Cort Ross singled and doubled to lead the winners.

Mark Cassidy and Greg Davis shared pitching duties for the Dodgers, and

the duo combined to strike out seven and allow five hits. Jayson Hayes

paced the offense with two hits.

The Pirates needed seven innings to subdue the Reds, 7-3, with relief

pitcher Brandon Bisignani taking down the top of the Reds batting order

in the seventh inning. Shawn Catron started on the mound for the Pirates

and struck out five while giving up six hits. Catron also delivered two

doubles and a single on offense, and Bisignani tripled and Nick McEachin

hit two singles.

Cory Kindness led the Reds with two hits, Valle Fluss tripled, and

Michael Sheedy and Derrick Beebe both doubled.

The Cardinals also beat the Dodgers, scoring a 5-3 victory as pitchers

Austin Morgan and Mike Doran combined on a four hitter, and Chris Paulson

tripled. Dodger pitchers Greg Davis and Tyler Chapman limited the Cards

to just four hits.

Behind the eight-strikeout, five-hit performance of pitcher John Whitt,

the Cards edged the Angels, 2-1. Whitt also had two hits on offense, Mark

Brooks tripled, and Mike Doran doubled. Pitcher Nick Leone turned in a

big effort for the Angels, striking out 11 while giving up five hits in a

complete game. Nick Bauerschmidt had two hits to lead the Halos on

offense.

Reds 7, Yankees 1

Michael Sheedy singled and tripled, Cory Kindness went 3 for 3, Conner

Sullivan doubled twice, and pitchers Sheedy, Kindness, and Valle Fluss

(double) combined to strike out 11 and give up five hits for the Reds;

Danny Higgins led the Yanks on offense with two singles.

Angels 9, Yankees 3

Johnny Schoenberger struck out nine and gave up four hits in a complete

game victory and also powered the Angels on offense with a home run and

two singles, and Zach Duerhing tripled; Danny Higgins singled twice for

the Yankees.
