Reds, Astros roll in postseason play

The Reds and the Astros, the top two seeds in the Fountain Valley

Youth Baseball Bronco Major Division playoffs, lived up to their billing

last weekend by advancing in postseason play.

In second round action, the top-seeded Reds turned back the Cardinals,

9-4, and the Astros blanked the Yankees, 2-0.

Reds 9, Cardinals 4

Jeff Hann hit a three-run home run during a 3 for 3 performance, Jeff

Roth had a two-RBI single, and Justin DeMarco doubled and singled for the

Reds, who scored seven runs in the first three innings; Bryce Madsen had

a two-run single, Aaron Roy had an RBI single, and relief pitcher Chad

Blauer limited the reds to just two hits and one unearned run in three

innings.

Astros 2, Yankees 0

The second-seeded Astros advanced by blanking the Yankees behind the

strong pitching of Garrett Leon.

The Yankees had reached the second round by beating the Braves, 7-1,

behind the strong pitching effort of Thomas Marcin.

Cardinals 3, Mariners 1

The Cardinals’ one-two pitching punch of Giovanni Rodriguez and Chad

Blauer allowed the Mariners just five hits while striking out three

batters apiece. Jeffrey Luckey led the Cards on offense with a double and

RBI single, Andrew Nehrig drove in the winning run with an RBI double,

Eric Schroeder added an RBI single, and Cameron McMullen doubled and

scored the game’s first run. For the Mariners, Taylor King singled twice

with an RBI, Kyle Mastel doubled and singled, and Brett Nagle pitched

three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.
