The Ocean View School District track meet record books took another

beating last week, this time at the hands of some local 6th-graders.

Spring View established two new records, one in boys and the other in

girls, and Marine View’s 4 x 100 crew set another meet record during

competition held at Huntington Beach High.

The Mariner girls also won their division, scoring 35 total points.

Spring View was next with 18 points, followed by Mesa View (13) and Vista

View (7).

In a hotly contested boys competition, Marine View edged out Mesa View in

points (25-23) to take first place. Spring View finished third with 15

points, and Vista View claimed four points.

Spring View’s Melissa Rivera set a new mark in the girls’ competition,

winning the 100 meter dash in a record time of 14.35. Rivera broke the

old mark of 14.39, set in 1996 by Vista View’s Christine Okwudibonye.

Marine View’s 4 x 100 relay team of Laura Taylor, Eriyka Rodriguez, Loren

Kortizija, and Whitney Thornton, ran to a new meet mark of 59.19. The

foursome bested the previous record time which again was set in 1996,

this time by Marine View’s Paige Morgan, Ashley O’Brien, Leyna Belcher,

and Kacy Daap, who ran a 59.21.

Other winners in the girls competition included Marine View’s Katie

Brezden in the long jump (11-feet-5), Kortizija in the triple jump

(25-10), Spring View’s Jasmine Higgins in the 800 meter run (3:03), and

Thornton in the 400 meter run.

Mitchell Gillespie of Spring View highlighted the boys competition with a

new meet record run of 1:04.27 in the 400 meter run.

The long jump was won by Marine View’s Andre Gatlin (12-11), the triple

jump by Mesa View’s Asland Walleman, the 100 meter dash by Spring View’s

Jonathon Finley (14.07), and Mesa View won the 4 x 100 meter relay.
