Boys volleyball: CdM sweeps past Laguna Beach
CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High’s boys volleyball team opened
the Pacific Coast League competition on the right foot, hammering
visiting Laguna Beach, 15-3, 15-6, 15-7, Wednesday night.
“We we’re an exciting team to watch,” Coach Steve Conti said. “I really
liked our enthusiasm and our hustle tonight.”
Greg Stampley led the attack with 18 kills and four blocks, while Brian
Gallagher (nine kills) Chris Shepardson (eight kills) and Forest Mack
(five kills) kept the Sea Kings’ onslaught coming against the Artists.
Assisting the offense, literally, was Kevin Hansen who had 32 assists to
go along with his three kills and three blocks.
Conti was equally pleased with the serving of Shepardson, who had two
aces and contributed to several Laguna Beach headaches.
“He was causing a lot of trouble on their side of the net thanks to his
jump-serves,” Conti said. “He helped us get a lot of free balls for our
side because they couldn’t handle him.”
The Sea Kings have some time off before traveling to Estancia Wednesday
at 6 p.m. in further PCL action.
