You had an interesting list this year, but you really missed a big one.

Senior Officer Nick Ekovich [of the Huntington Beach Police Department]

interrupted a robbery in progress responding to a 911 hang-up call. The

suspect planned to rob, assault -- and possibly worse -- several innocent

women and a child.Nick stood toe to toe with the suspect in a gun battle

with numerous rounds fired from each gun. The suspect died. Nick walked

away.

Nick received possible career-ending injuries and is trying to recover to

come back to work. Most would see this as a time buy a lottery ticket and

retire.Nick is not only a Big Kahuna, Nick is a hero.
