Reds roll, 11-2

Hank Conger smacked a three-run home run in the opening inning to

ignite the unbeaten Reds, who went on to post an 11-2 victory over the

Cardinals in Ocean View Little League Majors Division weekend play.

If that wasn’t enough, Conger came back to blast a two-run homer in the

third inning as the Reds improved to 2-0.

Conger, who homered in the first inning for the second week in a row,

also walked twice and scored four times.

Jeff VanDoornum came up with three hits, three runs scored, and pitched

three shutout innings for the second straight week to aid the Reds’

cause.

Both Michael Patriarca and Jeff Molica doubled for the Cardinals.

In other games:

Dodgers 2, Angels 0

In a tight game, Rory Jones singled in Steven Donahue in the top of the

six inning to break a scoreless tie, and Stephen Blue (two hits) added a

key single to set up the second run of the inning for the Dodgers (2-0),

who also received strong pitching performances from Donahue and Greg

Gonzalez. Justin Chambers pitched four innings of shutout ball for the

Angels, who received key hits Chambers and Thomas Burns in the bottom of

the sixth, but failed to score.

Astros 15, Mariners 2

Dallas Walters connected on a three-run home run in the opening inning

and finished with three hits, Trey Valbuena had three hits, and Kris

Bernard, Eric Jaso, and Jesse Potter each had two hits in the Astros’

15-hit attack; Nick Orendorff’s double led the Mariners.

MINOR A DIVISION

Pirates 19, Reds 11

Eleven Pirates cross home plate, with James Miller, Steve Tomasek, and

Colin Gearty each scoring three runs; Mick Caldwell had two hits and

scored twice for the Reds.

MINOR B DIVISION

Reds 8, Orioles 2

Derek Neugebauer had three RBI, Sean Rubino had two RBI, and Ryan

Christie tripled for the Reds (2-0).
