Hayes homers in Dodgers’ 6-1 win over Pirates

Jayson Hayes set the tone with an early home run Saturday, a hit

which propelled the Dodgers to a 6-1 victory over the Mets in Majors

Division play at Seaview Little League.

The Dodgers notched the victory despite getting just four hits, with six

walks contributing to the six runs. Tyler Chapman, Mark Cassidy, and

Logan Strook got the other hits for the Dodgers.

Hayes also joined forces with Cassidy on the mound, and the duo teamed

for nine strikeouts. They prevailed in a tense pitching duel that also

featured 13 strikeouts by Pirates pitcher Shaun Catron.

In other games:

Yankees 2, Angels 1

Yankee pitcher Danny Higgins pitched a complete game, striking out 14,

and Scott Rinaldi banged out two hits for the winners; Angel pitchers

Jonathon Schoenberger and Jake Pinkham combined to strike out nine, and

David McLauglin led the offense with two hits and scored the only Angel

run.

Reds 8, Cardinals 1

Valle Fluss, Cory Kindness, and Michael Sheedy took turns on the mound

and combined to strike out nine and allow just three hits, Kindness also

had a hit and walked twice, Sheedy tripled, while Fluss and Keith

Schwaneman each went 2 for 3. Jason Birk had two hits and Nathan Grego

doubled to account for the Cardinals offense.
