Dodgers go nine to beat Astros

In a game featuring outstanding pitching efforts by both teams, the

Dodgers and Astros battled nine innings before the Dodgers pulled out a

1-0 victory in weekend Majors Division play at Ocean View Little League.

Stephen Donahue’s game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth scored Greg

Gonzalez, and the pair split pitching duties in the first eight innings

before Rory Jones came on in the ninth to complete the shutout

performance by the trio.

Dallas Walters and Trey Valbuena both pitched four innings of shutout

ball for the Astros.

In other games:

Reds 6, Angels 0

Hank Congers capped a three-hit performance with a two-run home run in

the first inning, and the Reds never looked back. Conger also was the

last of three pitchers for the Reds, joining starter Jeff Van Doornum and

James Kang for the shutout. Van Doornum also had two hits and Kyle Engle

added an RBI single. For the Angels, Justin Chambers pitched three strong

innings and also joined teammate Troy Davis with a base hit.

Cardinals 4, Mariners 0

Pitchers Brett Sterbens, Cole Shandrick, and Chris Palmer combined for

the pitching shutout, Sterbens led the offense with two hits and three

runs, and Cassidy Hunkle had a hit and scored once for the Cardinals.

MINOR A DIVISION

Reds 9, Red Sox 0

Reds pitchers Kyle Hughes, Matt Ayster, and MJ Forsberg combined to pitch

a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Mick Caldwell led the offense with two

hits, and both Hughes and Anthony Peralta each had key hits.

MINOR B DIVISION

Angels 9, Expos 7

Zack Dunbar hit a home run and Ezekiel Joya had two hits to pace the

Angels.

Orioles 13, Rockies 1

Scott Kelly pitched three solid innings, Slater Davis tripled, and Alex

Nordin doubled for the Orioles.

Reds 17, Astros 2

Trent Miller had two hits and the pitching tandem of Ryan Vandenburg and

Andy Ragsdale held the Astros at bay in the easy victory by the Reds.
