We lost, but there is a modest solution to allow us to bury our sorrow

and create a win-win scenario (“El Toro airport backers: War isn’t over,”

March 9). How about turning the El Toro land mass into a beautiful

natural flower and tree-laden cemetery?

Each resident of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa would be given a free plot.

This would be partial payback for all those years we heard the noise, saw

the dust, smelled the pollution, tasted the fuel and touched the grit

from the airplanes overhead. This way, the Newport-Mesa residents living

under the flight paths could at least rest in peace.

In return, the South County residents will not have to endure an airport

near them. In the mean time, the residents of South County should

consider flying only from Long Beach, LAX, Ontario or San Diego until the

endless litigation is settled.

Since this is unlikely to happen in my lifetime, at least I could look

forward to a quiet grave.
