Thanks to a generous donation, one of the city’s largest summer community
events is well on its way.
Sports attorney Leigh Steinberg, who lives in Corona del Mar, contributed
$8,000 last week to the Scenic 5K Run. The Corona del Mar Chamber of
Commerce fund-raiser is also sponsored by the city of Newport Beach and
the Corona del Mar beautification committee.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the city as well as youth programs
in the area.
The run, which will take place June 3, will span five kilometers along
Ocean Boulevard and across the Goldenrod Avenue walking bridge. There
will also be a 2K walk and a 1K Kid’s Dolphin Dash along the same route,
said Jim Skahan, the event’s chairman.
Steinberg said he considers himself an active member of the race even
though he won’t be participating in it.
“My role is to start the race,” he said. “I also enjoy cheering my kids
while they run in Dolphin Dash.”
Steinberg and his wife, Lucy, have also sponsored last month’s Spirit Run
and this month’s Newport Beach International Film Festival, which will
take place March 30.
